About Me

Hi and welcome to BBQReboot.com. My name is Jayson and I’ve long been barbecue enthusiasts, I love cooking on an outdoor grill especially over charcoal. To me, it’s not summer until I can get outside and fire up one of my grills and smell the charcoal in the air. Yes, that’s right I have more than one grill I have 3 that I like to use and yes there all charcoal. Well, one is a combo grill that is gas and charcoal so I guess you can say I have 4 grills.

I’m also known by my friends for smoking meats on my charcoal smokers, all my grills really double as smokers. I never thought much about the fact that I used charcoal until I started asking people questions about how they do things on their grills. It turns out not a lot of people I know use charcoal grills and some don’t even know how to use a grill at all.

So I started this site to share everything I’ve learned over the years and to help educate others. I hope the information you find here helps you show off to your friends at your next BBQ, and make great memories for your kids of Barbecuing in the backyard.

Why I Ues Charcoal

Just in case your wondering I thought I tell you what makes me want to go throw the extra work of cooking over charcoal. Well to me there really is no other way to cook on a grill then over charcoal and I don’t feel its any harder than using any other grill. I know there are lots of other types of grills that use other types of fuels and are easier to use and heat up faster.

Yes, Iv heard all the reasons why I should switch to gas and now pellets but it’s just not the same. The food never tastes the same to me. To me getting the air intake set just right so my temperature is where I want it and getting the charcoal lit is fun. Really once you know how to properly use a charcoal grill it really is easy and fun, not to mention there’s a flavor that you’ll get when cooking over charcoal that you just can’t get any other way. Also if I’m cooking on the grill I want to be outside and with other grills, there’s not much of a need to stay outside with them.

My Grills

So like I sade above I have a few grills I like to use when cooking. So I thought I let you know a little bit about each of them and my experience with how well they work.

Char-Griller Duo

Let’s start with my char-griller Duo. I got this grill right after I bought my house back in 2012 it was actually a gift from some of my friends. As you can see in the photo its held up really well over the years. If you look at the nameplates on the lid’s you can see I’ve used the charcoal side a lot more then the propane.

As far as how well it works for grilling I have to say it’s an excellent grill. If you don’t have the time you can just use the propane side and be cooking in minutes. But if you’re looking to spend the day outside cooking on the grill or having a big party and plan on doing a lot of cooking you can use the charcoal side.

Also, there’s a rotisserie attachment for it so you can do a whole rotisserie chicken at home. I axially make my thanksgiving turkey on this grill every year and it’s always a big hit. I also have the side firebox on mine so I can use it as a horizontal smoker. The only downside is when you add the side firebox you have to take off the big handle on the side. It gets replaced by a little handle on the firebox this makes moving the grill much harder and this grill is heavy.

Char-Griller Akorn

This is an amazing grill and smoker that you can cook almost anything on. It’s can hole low temperature in the 200F without needing to be watched for hours. It can also get to extremely high temperature as well iv had mine almost to 700F. I got a pizza stone for mine and I can tell you if like wood oven pizza with a little practice you can make a great pizza on it in minutes.

This is a Kamado style grill, but it’s not your traditional kamado grill instead of being made from ceramic it’s made with double-wall steel with insulation between them. Making it this way keeps the cost of the grill lower this grill sells for around 300$. Most kamado grills start at 800$ and go up from there, so having this lost cost as an option is nice if you’re looking to try this type of grill and don’t want to spend a ton of money.

Weber Smokey Mountain

Ok so this is more of a smoker then a grill but you could grill on it if you hade to. Iv never used it as a grill but I can tell you it’s a great smoker. Iv have done 8+ hour runs in it and didn’t have to do a thing to it once I got the temperature to where I wanted it.

As Always, Happy Grilling!
